The Halloween Special – Scream!

The Halloween Special – Scream!

My first Halloween! Yay! After going through a lot of costumes at the Halloween Party Store, I settled for the extremely popular and classic Scream costume. I also got a small bottle of fake blood and some bloody bandages (though I have not used it yet).

These photographs were taken mostly for a weekly challenge set my company’s photography club. The theme for the week was ‘Movies’ – enact a scene from a movie or create a scene which is explicitly inspired by a movie.

This was shot using my Sigma 10-20 and then cropped because that lens is too darn wide! That’s my apartment, by the way. After living here, I realized that I don’t like apartments! I miss a house. I miss my house!
A little more stylized diptych.
I had rented a Canon 24-70 f/2.8 for the weekend to help me decide if I should purchase it or not. Long story short, I decided against it. The aperture just wasn’t wide enough for me at the wider side. I was looking for a wide angle lens that can provide great bokeh. This one lacked the punch compared to other prime lenses (24mm f/1.4!!! *drool*) and so I didn’t want to spend so much dough for a just-a-regular-kinda-lens lens. The following shots were all shot with the 24-70.

I also decided it was time I brushed up my acting skills. BIG MISTAKE. After reviewing the photographs at the end of the day, I realized one thing – damn… I suck at acting! =) We went to the basement of one of the apartments here to shoot these. I also wanted to test out some strobist lighting. Unfortunately, I accidentally dropped my flash unit / lighting stand and ended up breaking my hot shoe! However, I managed to get a few shots though before the incident. Oh and just so that we are clear, in the first scene, I am actually a step behind the ‘screamer’ and I haven’t seen him yet. Hence the emotionless and indifferent face. =)

One more shot from the basement:

I know it’s a little late, but still… Happy Halloween! =)
